Via Rail - your neighbour

As many of you already know, Via Rail is working with contractors to clean up their road bed and install new chain link fences along the Glens corridor. This work will, apparently, be continued all the way to Brockville.

This ongoing review of the status of this work will be updated at least weekly with pictures and comments from yours truly.

The Glens - and the Via Rail Saga:

Sun up - Aug. 16, 2010 and the destruction begins.

Local residents, and especially those whose properties back on the Via rail line between Merivale and Woodroffe, were rudely awakened to the raucous sound of their leafy sound barriers being ripped up and shredded.

Why?

We don't yet know. Well, we have some answers, but we have yet to hear first hand from Via representatives on why this was necessary in our area, why the destruction was so extensive and what Via's long range plans may be.

Via has kindly declined to answer, inform or respond to any inquiries as to their short or long range plans. Despite repeated attempts to have a representative explain what they are up to, in spite of the ongoing media coverage, in spite of the tense atmosphere between residents and the folks carrying the work we have heard not much from the offices of those who make these policy decisions.
