Gateway speed-limit signs, which mark the start and end of areas with lower speed limits, will soon be coming to The Glens.
New provincial legislation allows municipalities to use the signs wherever speed limits are less than 50 kilometres per hour. The City will install signs on local roads in residential areas and on collector roads with speed limits of 40 or 30 kilometres per hour.
Pineglen East has been designated as a 30 kilometres per hour zone, while Pineglen Annex and Country Place have been designated as 40 kilometres per hour zones.
In order to lower the speed limit on Brookdale, Leeward, Belledune and Briggs a petition will be circulated later in the Spring.
The traffic department have not yet considered Pineglen West or Grenfell.
Please see the attached diagrams below for further information on The Glens implementation.

It was announced last year that the city expects to begin using photo radar in school zones and other designated areas in 2019, Ontario passed legislation in 2017 allowing cities to use photo radar, but hasn't issued detailed regulations. This may eventually address the speeding on Merivale. However GCA is worrying that people will use Pineglen to avoid slowing down on Merivale. Time will show. The issue of excessive speed was raised at the AGM last Wednesday. Yesterday there was a police on MacFarlane issuing tickets. Hopefully changes in policing will means more enforcement. Please report speeders whenever possible. It seems that the traffic department will take another look at the problem in each mentioned area (Grenfell, Pineglen, Merivale an…
So isn't Photo Radar the obvious solution to the problem of vehicles flying at well over the posted speed limits? Perhaps its time to start pushing for this.
This is a start, but perhaps the City can look at option for MacFarlane Road.
Surely the traffic on Grenfell Cr both ways especially at rush hour times deserves to see the 40 signs at the entrances to the area.
In 2013 responding to residents’ concerns letter was sent to the traffic management team and Councillor Egli to address the problem. Residents wrote:
"More and more people seem to be using MacFarlane as a ‘short cut’ to POW and we’ve noticed a huge difference in traffic during the morning commute this school year. Residents find it frustrating how they can barely leave their neighbourhood because of the traffic problem in this area. It was never this bad in previous years and forces drivers in our neighbourhood to be very assertive/aggressive to turn onto MacFarlane from Greenside, Brisbane or Pineglen".
The road has been problematic since its inception. Improvement was noticed when Hunt Club road was constructed and truck traffic prohibited,…
